Yesterday was the first day (we think) that all eight Big Girls laid the same day–in other words, eight for eight!
They’ve been laying in prime spring mode for a while now. Maybe six weeks? Why can’t I remember?? We started in the four to five eggs per day range and for a month now we’ve had six to seven per day. But yesterday was all eight!
We actually had seven of the eight by 1:00 in the afternoon. Cleo was the last to lay. At least we are pretty sure she was the last one. She was being loud and a spaz (although that’s not actually unusual) in the coop in mid- to late afternoon. When I went out to the coop to shut up the chickens last night, one final egg was in the Most Favored Nation Nest Box. There was a feather on it that looks more like Hawkeye’s than Cleo’s, but we’re pretty sure it’s Cleo’s egg given her silliness a few hours earlier.
Here are two photos from yesterday (I know, gasp!).
Yesterday’s haul (asparagus, the first seven eggs, and rhubarb from one plant):
And Ms. Cleo’s egg avec feather on chicken kitchen towel (bien sur):
Nice when it happens!
Yay for photos! Yay for eggs! I bet they are DELICIOUS!
