The first egg!
Ron said that Caroline was digging around one of the nesting boxes early this morning. I checked on the chickens this afternoon because winter has returned. It’s another cold and snowy day with a brutally cold night expected.
Lo and behold, a single egg in the very same nesting box! It’s beige and oblong, almost the same width the entire length. We heard first eggs are often (very) small, but this one is not much smaller than the eggs we buy at our co-op. Hopefully it didn’t freeze during the day. I wonder if the sudden thaw over the past two days contributed to the first egg’s sudden appearance.
Guess we’ll have our first egg for Christmas breakfast! Thanks, Caroline!
